IF YOU’RE SOLO, DON’T GO LOCO

07/17/2009

This week on Midnight Podcast, Apocalypse Dan focuses on the challenges of going it alone in a Zombie Pandemic.  Despite the added time constraints of having to do Solo Zombie Survivaleverything yourself – collect food, find a maintain safe shelter, locate and purify water, manage you fire – Dan points out that the mental stress that isolation causes may prove to be the biggest obstacle to survival.

“Think of how you felt the first time you had to spend a holiday alone, or had a relationship suddenly end.  Now imagine a week of days like that, or month, or year.  Humans are social animals, plain and simple.”

To combat loneliness and depression, Dan suggests setting a solid goal and working hard to accomplish it, as this type of singular focus not only improves your physical situation, but also gives you a stable “mental” platform from which to view the world.  Goals achieved provide a concrete sense of success that boosts morale and helps prolong survival.

I do love Apocalypse Dan’s survival tips. As long as you can keep you self occupied and focused you won’t turn into a L.M.O.E (Last Man On Earth) and attack anything or anyone you see. I don’t think isolation would drive me crazy right away but I would rather be in a group so that I would be overwhelmed with the task of surviving all on my own. I wouldn’t want to break my leg and then not be able to work and die. But pick you friends wisely cause an idiot will kill you faster than loneliness.

Amen, Spacepope. Being alone is pretty freaking awful, but being stuck in a group full of idiots will be a lot worse (even if you don’t live as long to suffer from it).
